Goias threw away their chances of promotion last season with some poor form at the end of their campaign. In what is arguably a stronger division this year, though, they are intent on making up for lost time. They are currently in sixth, but are one of four teams - going all the way up to third place - that are level on 26 points.
The front pairing of Iarley and Ricardo Goulart is the archetypal old and young combination. 38-year-old Iarley is the wily, experienced old forward that has learnt every trick in the book, and uses them to hold up the ball, link play and get across defenders, while Ricardo Goulart is the 21-year-old upstart that provides the pace and verve. He dashes around and picks up the loose balls that drop around Iarley, and with the help of playmaker Ramon, tends to provide the goals.
Tonight they will surely fancy their chances of filling their boots against rock-bottom Ipatinga. With just one win from fourteen games the Mineiro side are having a shocking campaign, losing their last twelve games on the bounce. All four of their points accrued in the current season came in that opening two games, but since then the wheels have completely fallen off and less than halfway through the season they already look like relegation certs.
Goias should have little trouble sweeping aside such feeble opposition, and 1.9 for them to win seems a generous touch for what should be an absolute banker. While they do look far better than Ipatinga, the handicap is not necessarily a tempting option as they haven't tended to really put teams to the sword this season despite regularly churning out victories. The simple away win is our bet of the day.
