On Saturday night, Xabi Alonso’s late penalty assured a Spanish victory over France and saw Unibet paying out over £150,000 to its customers in refunded bets.

Unibet’s injury time insurance offer meant that every losing Correct Score, First/Last Goalscorer and Half Time/Full Time were paid back in full as the goal was scored after the 90th minute.

It is the second time in a week that Unibet have refunded stakes as Sweden’s late goal on Tuesday, also against France, saw refunds of over £100,000.

“It had been a quiet tournament so far for late goals but these two in a few days has seen us pay back over £250,000 of bets to our customers” said Erik Backlund Head Of Unibet’s Sportsbook.

“This is now the most expensive promotion we have ever run and with 3 games to go, we hope there is as little extra time as possible or we may be paying back a lot more bets”

Unibet are no strangers to refunding bets on big events - their Champions League 0-0 insurance offer has previously seen bets refunded to customers on any match finishing goalless.

With the Semi Finals coming up and teams pushing hard for a last minute goal, Unibet customers will be hoping for plenty more injury time goals and refunded stakes!
