Falla will be fresh, having passed into the second round following the retirement of opponent Denis Istomin.

Andy Murray makes his return to competition today in Miami, where he’ll meet the Columbian Alejandro Falla. Murray is bidding for his first tournament victory at the Sony Ericsson Open since 2009.

Fourth seed Andy Murray has a 2-0 series record over Falla, having won both matches on hard-court. This will be their first meeting since 2010 and Murray is the short-priced favourite to progress at 1.04, with Falla available at 11.0.

Murray will be looking to regroup after suffering a shock opening-round defeat to Guillermo Garcia Lopez at Indian Wells. The 24-year-old has a 14-3 season record this year. He will attempt to record his first victory at the event since 2009, when he defeated Novak Djokovic to take the title.

Falla will be fresh, having passed into the second round following the retirement of his opponent Denis Istomin. The 28-year-old is bidding for his 6th Tour-level win of the season, but it’s hard to see Murray making an early exit in a second successive tournament .

Prediction: Murray in straight sets. A 2-0 victory for Murray can be backed at 1.22.
