Draw analysis: Nadal was given an draw in Monte Carlo and predictably took advantage. His route to another title in Barcelona is more challenging, although it has already improved following the withdrawal of Tomas Berdych through injury.
The top-seed’s could face his compatriots Guillermo Garcia-Lopez and Pablo Andujar, followed by Janko Tipsarevic.
David Ferrer is in the other half of the draw along with Andy Murray. They are on course for a semi-final showdown, with probably either Fernando Verdasco or Kei Nishikori meeting Nadal in the other semi.
Ferrer was knocked out early in Monte Carlo, but he is in the weakest quarter in Barcelona and should recover. Murray has a more difficult week and could face Robin Haase in the third round and Nicolas Almagro in the quarters.
